Chuvash Drama Theatre is the oldest theatre in Chuvashia and the main national venue of the Chuvash Republic. Within 106 years of its activity, the administration of the theatre and its team succeeded in building solid foundation that underpins cultural processes not only of the region but also of the whole country. The main goal of the theatre is preservation of the Chuvash language and national traditions and passing them down from generation to generation. The mission of the national theatre is to reflect the cultural code of the nation in its constant development.
Chuvash Drama Theatre is a cultural monument, a custodian of national identity and a bearer of traditions, open to new ways of self-expression. In such a space, contemporary art can acquire a new context enriched by the impulse of the Chuvash cultural intelligentsia who created the theatre in 1918 in Kazan. Hosting the Chuvash Biennale in the theatre is a step towards creating a new cultural narrative, a space of performativity, a dialogue, experiments and innovations.
Architectural diversity of the theatre provides unique opportunities for exhibiting contemporary arts. Characteristics of the space - from stage to lobby – can harmoniously include art objects of various genres. The specificity of the architecture and interior of the theater allows artists to interact with the site, expanding the boundaries of perception and drawing the audience into a new art form of dialogue.
